Excessive Sodium Intake Infographic
Earlier this year, the World Health Organization (WHO) issued new guidelines on sodium and potassium intake. It is recommended that adults consume no more than 2,000 mg of sodium (5 grams of salt) per day from the diet, but the potassium intake At least 3510 mg is required to lower blood pressure. However, an earlier report stated that the salt intake of many people generally reaches 10 grams per day, which is twice the daily intake limit recommended by the WHO.
Reduce sodium and potassium to prevent high blood pressure
While sodium is essential for maintaining the body's electrolyte balance, it is estimated that 200 to 500 milligrams of sodium per day is sufficient to maintain normal body function. Potassium is also necessary to maintain the body's electrolyte balance.

Potassium is found in many foods, such as beans, nuts, fresh fruits and vegetables. Diets high in processed foods and low in fresh fruits and vegetables often have too much sodium, which can lead to high blood pressure. Conversely, getting enough potassium can lower blood pressure.
