Katch-McArdle Calculator
Want to keep healthy and fit? Our Katch-McArdle calculator helps you discover your BMR, which is the minimum amount of calories your body needs per day to keep functioning. We will also explain the Katch-McArdle formula being used.
What is the Katch-McArdle calculator?
Katch-McArdle calculator is a handy calculation tool that helps you find your basal metabolic rate (BMR), which is the amount of energy used by an individual at rest over a 24 hour day.
What is Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR)?
Even when you are resting, your body burns calories by performing basic functions to sustain life, such as breathing, circulation, nutrient process, etc. Basal metabolic rate is the minimum amount of calories your body needs to accomplish its most basic (basal) life-sustaining functions.
What is the Katch-McArdle formula?
The Katch-McArdle formula is as below:
BMR = 370 + (21.6 * Lean Body Mass [kg])
In order to apply this formula, you need to know your Lean Body Mass (LBM). The LBM can be obtained using Boer formula, as shown below:
- For men:
LBM = 0.407 * weight [kg] + 0.267 * height [cm] - 19.2
- For women:
LBM = 0.252 * weight [kg] + 0.473 * height [cm] - 48.3
