6 Memorization Techniques Infographic
Mental mechanism to store items such as experiences, names, appointments, addresses, telephone numbers, charts, stories, poems, photographs, charts, graphs, facts, music or other visual, auditory, or operational knowledge in memory for later recall items, and thus, the act of committing something to memory is memorization.
Although maintenance rehearsal can be useful for memorizing material for a limited
period of time (a type of learning by repetition, similar to rote learning).
Using chunking, a process in which a person categorizes the data they are attempting to memorize into classes, is another helpful way to enhance memorization. A individual wishing to memorize a long number sequence, for example, will break up the sequence into bits of three, helping them to recall more of the numbers.
Similarly, this is how many telephone numbers are memorized in North America by dividing them into three parts:
an area code,
preceded by a three-digit number,
and a four-digit number.
