The term "Cyber Monday" was coined in 2005 by Shop, a unit of the National Retail Federation, as US retailers saw an increasing number of consumers choosing to Shop online on the Monday after Thanksgiving.
The term "Cyber Monday" was coined five years ago to describe people returning to work after the Thanksgiving holiday and trying to buy gifts online to give back to family and friends during the holiday. As a result, the first Monday after Thanksgiving is the most frenzied time for online retailers to compete for customers, triggering a shopping spree.
