You must be the change you wish to see in the world. - Mahatma Gandhi

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was an Indian lawyer, anti-colonial nationalist, and political ethicist who employed nonviolent resistance to lead the successful campaign for India's independence from British rule and to later inspire movements for civil rights and freedom across the world. The honorific prefix Mahātmā (Sanskrit: "great-souled", "venerable"), first applied to him in 1914 in South Africa, is now used throughout the world.

"You must be the change you wish to see in the world."

While life change is inevitable, we can also initiate personal change so that we can rise to the challenge and thereby become bigger and better people.

How do we do this? We believe the best approach is to recognize that change is inevitable, that there is potential for positive change every moment, and to stay grounded and connected to our peace.

His poignant words are of course meant to inspire humanity to help them muster up enough courage to stand against the unhealthy things they find in this evolving world. He wants to see everyone change themselves in a way that benefits not only him but this beautiful country and the world as a whole. He wanted to send a profound message that the world is the result of our actions, so we must contribute in positive ways to lead our descendants to a bright future. With these words, he wishes everyone to realize their power to influence the world and move in the right direction without fear of obstacles and consequences.

Many of us have heard Gandhi's quotes and been moved. But even if we've quoted, quoted, directed, and consulted about it, we don't often hear the story behind it.

Among the hundreds waiting to be visited by Mahatma Gandhi were a mother and her young son. When it was their turn, the lady asked Gandhi to talk to her son about eating sugar.

Gandhi asked her to come back in two weeks and said he would talk to the boy. She wondered why he didn't speak to her son when he was already there, but she complied with his request.

They came back two weeks later, and after a few hours of waiting, she approached Gandhi again.

Hearing her repeated requests, Gandhi immediately spoke to the boy, who agreed to start an effort to eliminate the candy. After thanking Gandhi for his wise and compassionate words, the mother asked him why he wanted them back instead of offering his advice the first time.

"When you visited two weeks ago, I was eating sugar too," Gandhi replied, explaining that if he hadn't made the journey himself, he couldn't talk about or teach her son not to eat sugar.

Whatever impact you want to have on our society, it has to start with you.

Let every moment of yours be an example of what you teach and advise.

Let your every action reflect your beliefs.

Let your every sentence reflect your own thoughts.

There are a thousand ways each of us can make our life meaningful and make others’ lives better than they ever imagined, thereby making a mark on the world.

If you want to see change, you have to start from the inside first. So simple and so profound.
