Army Body Fat – The formula
The calculation of army body fat based on correlations between several body circumference measures relative to a person’s height.
For male:
%BF = (86.010 * log10( waist – neck ) ) – [70.041 * log10(height)) + 36.76
For women:
%BF = (163.205 * log10( waist + hip – neck ) ) – (97.684 * log10(height)) – 78.387
Do I pass the army body fat requirement?
The US Army body fat percentage standards for military service personnel on active duty are described in Regulation 600-9:

Example calculation and result
In case of a male, aged 37, at a height of 183 cm, neck measurement of 51 cm and waistline of 101 cm, the results displayed are:
- Body fat percentage = 17.96% (You meet the goal of the Department of Defense!)
