A concert is a live musical performance in front of an audience. A concert given by just one performer (or perhaps two) is usually called a recital, or by an orchestra, such as a choir, or a band. At a concert, the performers usually have a higher position on the stage than the audience.
Concerts are held in venues of all sizes, from private homes and small nightclubs, dedicated concert halls, arenas and parks to large mixed-use buildings and even sports stadiums. Indoor concerts held in the largest venues are sometimes called arena concerts or open-air theater concerts.
In some concerts, such as classical music, the audience participates passively. In other concert Settings, especially folk or rock concerts, performers encourage and participate in a positive audience response.
