Helen Adams Keller

(June 27, 1880 – June 1, 1968)

An American author, disability rights advocate, political activist and speaker. She has authored 14 books and hundreds of speeches and articles on a variety of topics.

When she was 19 months old, she became deaf and blind as a result of an illness. Under the guidance of Anne Sullivan, she slowly learned the common sense and lifestyle of ordinary people. She and Sullivan are best known for her autobiography, The Story of My Life, and the film and stage adaptation of that work, The Miracle Worker.

As she grew up, she began to advocate for the visually impaired. She hopes to use her experiences to bring more positive messages to others. In 1946, she worked in the United States as an international relations consultant for the American Foundation for the Blind, visiting 35 countries. She fought to establish schools for the blind around the world and often visited patients in hospitals to share her experiences.

Daring adventure of Helen Keller

Helen Keller was born on June 27, 1880. She is originally a healthy baby, but she suffered from acute cerebral congestion at the age of 19 months and lost her hearing and vision. When growing up, she used a self-created sign language to communicate with her family.

As she grew older, simple communication failed to satisfy her and her temper became violent. At the age of six, her parents, with the assistance of their family doctor, invited Annie Sullivan, a teacher at Perkins Head Start, to serve as Helen Keller's Head Start tutor.

Without hearing or seeing, everything was unknown to her. Sullivan tried different methods to teach her how to relate words to what she felt. While dousing one of her hands with cold water, then trying to write the features of her other hand. Thereafter, Keller began her adventure as she began to feel and understand the world around her.

For Helen Keller, her life was a daring adventure. If she gave up and stopped learning and feeling, she would only be left with nothing.

Leave the comfort zone

The comfort zone is a mental state in which we feel comfortable and stable. Everything in it is under our control so that we don't feel nervous or have other strong negative emotions.

Inside the comfort zone, we may always feel good. However, lacking of challenge and learning will make us far away from our goals and improvement.

In this case, it is time for us to leave the comfort zone.

1 - Treat stress as effort

On the way out of our comfort zone, we may face different challenges or difficulties. All failures and experiences are lessons for us, try to learn from them and let go of the fear of failure.

2 - Keep on learning

Lots of knowledges and techniques are needed when facing those challenges and unknown outside the comfort zone. Try to plan the list of learning. It can also help improving our self-esteem and self-confidence.

3 - Divide challenges to steps

Reducing the difficulty and time required between steps will result in less stress about the challenge.

4 - Healthy living habits

Only when we have a healthy body and mind, a strong body and mind can help us face challenges more easily.

Leaving comfort zone is a challenge to us, if we do not know the benefits of it, it is not easy for us to step out the comfort place we always stay.

1 - Stronger mental-health

When we leave our comfort zone, we may face different challenges and difficulties, and this stress can help us train resilience, which can enhance our mental health and reduce the risk of emotional disorders such as depression.

2 - Explore your talent

We have different talents that we may not have discovered. Leaving our comfort zone can push us to try new techniques, challenge us, explore our talents and develop our abilities.

3 - Find like-minded people

Leaving our comfort zone can help us expand our relationships and meeting like-minded people can help us make more progress. These people can be our leaders and support us on the path to achieving our goals.
