ADKAR Tutorial

The ADKAR change model is a widely used tool to help you analyze change and better understand it. It strives to reduce organizational resistance to change by ensuring that the transformation process runs smoothly. This approach focuses on the people side of transformation, specifically how to ensure that almost all employees are involved, supportive and engaged in the transformation.

The ADKAR model consists of five key elements, including:. Consciousness, Desire, Knowledge, Ability and Reinforcement are the building blocks of change.

  1. Recognize the need for change

  2. Desire to participate in and support change

  3. Knowledge of how to change (and what it looks like)

  4. Ability be able to implement changes on a daily basis

  5. Reinforcement to keep changes in place
