World Malaria Day Poster

Malaria is caused by a parasite called Plasmodium, which is transmitted through the bites of infected mosquitoes. The parasites multiply in the human liver and infect red blood cells. Symptoms of malaria, including fever, headache and vomiting, usually appear 10 to 15 days after a mosquito bite. If left untreated, malaria can quickly become life-threatening, cutting off the blood supply to vital organs that sustain life.

On World Malaria Day, which falls on April 25, WHO is launching a new initiative aimed at ending transmission of the disease in 25 countries by 2025.
