To take a mental break from work (34%),
To contact family and friends (27%),
To develop their professional network (24%)
To help solve work problems (20%).
Employers have an at-work social media policy: (1) They are 10% less likely to use social media for personal reasons while on the job. (2) as well as 9% more likely to use social media to help solve work problems.
Does social media affect students' academic performance?
While many parents may be concerned about the growing popularity of social media interfering with their children's studies, recent studies in Europe have shown that using sites such as Snapchat, Facebook or Instagram has no effect on academic performance. In fact, they observed that those who were especially involved on social networks did not spend less time studying.
