Cholesterol is a fatty substance that is found in every cell of our body. Cholesterol cannot move through the body alone because it does not dissolve in water. It is carried in our blood by lipoproteins.
Having a high cholesterol means that the level of cholesterol in your blood is outside of the normal range (too much LDL and insufficient HDL).
Too much bad cholesterol in your blood can increase the risk of heart disease, heart attack or a stroke.
