The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.

-Nelson Mandela

Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela

18 July 1918 – 5 December 2013

He is a South African Transkei, anti-apartheid revolutionary, politician and philanthropist, who is also widely regarded as the founding father of South Africa.

He served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999 and was the first South African head of state elected by a fully representative democracy. During his tenure, he worked to abolish apartheid, achieve racial reconciliation, and eradicate poverty and injustice.

Prior to his election as president, Mandela was an active anti-apartheid activist. When Mandela led the anti-apartheid movement, he was convicted by a South African court for, among other things, "conspiring to overthrow the government".

On December 5, 2013, he died at home that day at the age of 95.

About the quote

Rising after we fall

Was Mandela's life as a great man of wide influence smooth and unhindered? Actually, no. He even faced some difficulties that others might not have encountered in their lifetime.

As an anti-apartheid revolutionary, he had to fight against power all the time, and he was once arrested for his actions and spent about 26 years in prison. However, he never gave up working for different kinds of people. As a result, he got up again and again after falling down and eventually became successful.

Mandela received more than 100 awards during his 40 years, most notably the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993.

In 2005, he was also voted "Greatest South African" by a South African Broadcasting Corporation poll.

Falling vs Rising

If we stumble along the path of life, is this a bad thing? As we grow and gradually leave our comfort zone, we may face different unknown difficulties and challenges. In such cases, we may be fearful of them and try to avoid failure. However, failure can sometimes benefit us because we can learn from it. Over a long period of time, we can grow and then become stronger and be able to handle these failures skillfully. How we face these failures is more important than guessing if we will ever encounter them.

We face different failures in our lives and stumble over and over again. However, not everyone can get up after a failure. It is only by getting up after each fall that we can achieve what we want and get glory from it.

Cope with failure

Learn how to deal with failure now! While we understand that we should get up after a fall, we may know how to do that and how to adjust our mindset. Here are some tips to help you face and cope with the failures you may encounter.

Treat failure as a lesson

We can't control the failures we encounter, but we can control the mindset we have when we encounter them. Try to look at them as an experience. Every failure we encounter is also a step to success, because we have reduced a possible path.

Find like-minded people

Even coping with failure alone can better train us how to control our mindset. When you find yourself unable to cope with failure, you can still seek help. Support from like-minded people can also boost your self-esteem and self-confidence to face the failures we may encounter.

Cope with failure and get up every time you fall down. If we can persevere and overcome them, we will always succeed one day.
