Helen Keller Quote 02

When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us.

-Helen Keller

Helen Adams Keller

(June 27, 1880 – June 1, 1968)

She is an American author, disability rights advocate, political activist and speaker. She and her tutor, Anne Sullivan, are best known for her autobiography, The Story of My Life, and the film and stage adaptation of that work, The Miracle Worker.

When she was 19 months old, she became deaf and blind as a result of an illness. Under the guidance of Anne Sullivan, she slowly learned the common sense and lifestyle of ordinary people.

As she grew up, she began to showcase her talents in different areas. As a representative of people with disabilities, she began to advocate for the visually impaired. She hopes to use her experiences to bring a more positive message to others.

Helen Keller's disability could definitely be called "a closed door to happiness" and she faced more difficulties than others. However, instead of being trapped by the door, she turned back to face the open window. Despite all the bad things that happened to her, she coped with the difficulties she encountered and lived her life to the fullest.

However, even she was once trapped by that dilemma. Fortunately, she met her lifelong mentor and best friend, Anne Sullivan, and she finally found the window that belonged to her. That's why she said that if we focus too much on the closed door, we ignore the open window.

How to face the Closed Door ?

Don't blindly maximize the problem and make yourself feel anxious, try to focus on something else. Instead of focusing on what you've lost, think about what you have.

When you encounter difficulties, try to find another way out instead of shutting yourself up. Restrain yourself from the stress that comes with sadness or difficulty, and don't let yourself go or give up on yourself because of difficulties.

It's also a great way to face difficulties with others. Sometimes it's better to face difficulties in the company of family and friends than to face them alone. Like Helen Keller, she met the mentor who led her to the window that opened for her.
