Adair’s Action-Centered Leadership?

Action-centered leadership is a model first published in 1973 by leadership expert John Adair, which highlights the key actions that leaders must take when managing a team. It is particularly useful because they divide these responsibilities into three key areas:

  1. Task Needs: Achieve the team's goals.

  2. Team Maintenance Needs: Develop and build your team to be more effective.

  3. Individual Needs: Helps individuals reach their full potential in the workplace.

These areas are represented by three intersecting circles, as shown in this template.

In order to achieve maximum output, the balance of these 3 parts is very important.
