What is Rack Diagram?

Installing equipment in a server rack without prior planning can be problematic since you may not have enough space for the equipment and cables. Building a rack diagram can help you determine the optimal set up of your rack, or to find out a rack size that best fit your need and budget.

How to create a Rack Diagram?

Visual Paradigm Online's Rack Diagram software provides a rich set of symbols like servers, switches, monitor and more for rack design. There are also vendor specific elements for APC, Cisco, Dell, IBM, Oracle, F5, HP, etc. You can create a rack diagram by performing the steps below:

  1. Create a blank Rack Diagram.
  2. Drag a rack from palette onto your diagram.
  3. Drag any devices or equipments into the rack. Components being dragged into a rack will be automatically stacked from top to bottom. They are also resized to fit the rack weight. You can drag and drop components within the rack to re-arrange them.
  4. Resize the rack's height to add/remove unit slots.
  5. When you are done, save it (File > Save as) to our cloud repository for future access. You can also export your diagram into an image (PNG, SVG, JPG, PDF and more) and share it with your co-workers.
