What is Sequence Diagram?

A sequence diagram captures the behavior of a single scenario by showing a number of example objects and the messages that are passed between these objects within a use case. One of the nice things about a sequence diagram is that you almost don't have to explain the notation in order to communicate a scenario it represented even for business stakeholders.

Usages of Sequence Diagram

  • To refine use case descriptions and flow of events
  • To find additional participating objects
  • To identify responsibilities and data structure of the participating object through inspection of coming messages
  • To model the interaction between actors and subsystems when using in high level
  • elaborate a scenario in different levels of detail iteratively when needed
