Benjamin Franklin

(October 18, 1785 – November 5, 1788)

American polymath and one of the founding fathers. He was a distinguished statesman, diplomat, scientist, and inventor, as well as a publisher, printer, journalist, author, and philanthropist.

As a writer, he published The Pennsylvania Gazette at the age of 23, and Franklin published Poor Richard's Almanack under the pseudonym "Richard Saunders", while Poor Richard's Almanack is still a well-known book nowadays.

He was also an amazing inventor whose inventions included lightning rods, glass organs and double eyelids, just to name a few. As such a successful inventor, he never applied for a patent. In his autobiography, he mentions, "as we enjoy great advantages from the inventions of others, we should be glad of an opportunity to serve others by any invention of ours; and this we should do freely and generously"

Fail the test ? Just the ways do it wrong !

Each invention requires a lot of experimentation and analysis, and the large number of failures usually undermines our self-confidence. As an inventor, one must be mentally prepared to face failure after failure - it may be a matter of unwavering ambition or overall stress resistance. When we can laugh at each failure like Benjamin, we will be a successful inventor.

In addition, the act of "not patenting" shows us that Benjamin was a man with a big heart, not only in terms of monetary gain, etc., but also in terms of his dedication to the general public.

Right attitude to face failure

Benjamin's words may sound like an excuse not to admit defeat, but in fact this is exactly the right attitude to take when we face defeat.

No need to fear of failure.

Failure is only a kind of learning process.

Not only inventing, but also doing other work, success is usually the result of various is attempts and failures. Each time we encounter a failure, we can find the root cause of the failure and then try to improve it in the next attempt. In this case, as Benjamin said, it is just a way to confirm that it will be done wrong. We are still on the path to success.

If you are still nervous about the failures you might encounter when testing, try planning for it! Try to learn more knowledge and techniques to help us in our work, and observe all the processes we do to adjust the plan in the best way we know how. This can help us reduce the number of failures before they happen. Even if we end up failing, we know that we can choose another approach on our next attempt.

Willing to try different areas

As a multifaceted person, Benjamin exposed himself to different fields, demonstrating his creativity and action, thus creating countless inventions and many achievements that are worthy of his spirit.

Whether we are inventors or not, we need to maintain a mindset of experimentation, creativity and action. Do not be defeated by the pressure of life, try to explore the world and try the area you are interested in.
