As a result of human activities, plant and animal species are disappearing at a faster rate. The diversity of all living things on the planet, has declined at an alarming rate in recent years, mainly due to human activities such as land use changes, pollution, and climate change.


Biodiversity has traditionally been defined as all kinds of life on earth which includes microorganisms, plants, animals, and ecosystems, such as coral reefs, forests, rainforests, and deserts.


Accord to David Suzuki, a Canadian academic, science broadcaster and environmental activist:


"If we pollute the air, water and soil that keep us alive and well, and destroy the biodiversity that allows natural systems to function, no amount of money will save us."

Biodiversity is the result of an evolution of 3.5 billion years. It has been through

a time of extinction. The latest and most damaging process of extinction is caused by all forms of human activity.


There are many kinds of food, such as fish, meat, plants, fruits and grains, owing to the biodiversity of the world that we reply on. Eighty percent of the food we consume comes from 20 different kinds of plants. Yet human uses 40,000 species of them for food, clothes and shelter.
