Is there always chaos and no way to start every time you think? It's not easy to agree in the face of a problem, even if you use logical reasoning to debate, right?

Dr. Edward de Bono, a British academic, has developed six thinking hat training models that enable rapid and comprehensive decision-making tools within the existing framework. Different from the traditional right and wrong linear thinking, the six thinking caps use comprehensive thinking to create constructive, forward-looking solutions, avoid wasting time arguing with each other, which will only limit things to the difficult situation of improvement but inability to innovate.

In a more exploratory collaboration instead of confrontational attack, in addition to effective communication, is also a way to improve the team's level of thinking.

Elements of Six Thinking Hats

Using Bono's six thinking hats as a conceptual thinking framework, thinkers must wear hats to play a corresponding role in solving the problem at hand, cutting the problem into multiple angles to think and, in turn, caring about different levels to solve the problem. The Six Thinking Hats are tools for guiding thinking patterns. Everyone can use these six kinds of basic thinking, which can metaphorical be considered as white, black, yellow, red, green and blue hats.

  • White (fact-based) thinking hat: white represents neutrality and selflessness, not expressing one's own opinions, but objectively examining data and information to state the facts of the problem. For example: what information do we have?

  • Black (careful-bases) thinking hat: black represents logical negation, only considering the negative factors of things, carefully assessing risks, listing shortcomings, and even criticizing. Is it true? Will it work? What are the disadvantages? What's the problem? Why not?

  • Yellow (positive-based) thinking hat: yellow represents dazzling, sunshine and optimism. It gives logical affirmation with positive thinking and actively finds out the feasibility, constructiveness and interest points. For example: why is it worth doing? Why does it work? What are the advantages?

  • Red (Emotional-based) thinking hat: symbolizes the red flame, indicates the most direct emotion, judges by emotional intuition and even the current feeling, and rationalizes the feeling and premonition. How do you feel about this?

  • Green (creative-based) thinking hat: symbolizes full of vitality, seeking new ideas, new schemes and new concepts, and putting forward suggestions to solve problems with creative thinking. For example: what are new ideas, suggestions and assumptions? What are the possible solutions and actions? Is there any other possibility?

  • Blue (control-based) thinking hat: it symbolizes the sky, looking at the whole situation, controlling thinking, summarizing statements, and then making decisions. It also represents the order and organization of the thinking process, and is used to control the use of other thinking hats.
